Above Photo:  How southern exhibitors politely request that you don’t plop your derriére on their display merch

If ever there was a month when market-hopping designers and exhibitors wish they could be in two–(or three!)–places at once, it would be January.

With KBIS, The Atlanta Market, Dallas Market, Maison et Objet, and Las Vegas Market all happening within the span of the same 3 weeks, FoMO was inevitable.

Still, parts of our Steelie team managed to hit 3 of the 5 events (and sadly Paris was NOT one of them 🙁 ) .  Here’s our quick recap of where we DID end up:

ATLANTA KNOWS HOW TO PARTY

When it comes to hosting designers, Americasmart truly rolls out the red carpet for designers attending the International Gift & Home Furnishings Market.  We couldn’t get enough of the daily events in the Designer Workspace on 15 in Building 1– such a beautifully configured and catered space!!  Our favorites included Veranda mag’s star-studded 30th Anniversary lineup, Atlanta Homes & Lifestylesconversation with Bunny Williams and Annie Selke,  Adam Japko’s celeb blogger pantheon, and–of course!– our Jane’s deliciously intriguing What Men Want panel.

The fascinating discussion is a whole huge topic in itself–and is becoming a surprisingly important one for the design business going forward.  We’ll be unpacking more for you in the days ahead.

But in the meantime… did we mention the parties?

We were thrilled to help host Imagine Home’s “Blue Diamond” Friday Happy Hour.  (If you don’t know Imagine Home, you need to!)  A stream of inspiring and delightful guests sipped blueberry thyme cocktails, grabbed some SY nail polish, and sharpied a chandelier’s worth of dangling positive thoughts for 2017.

As we were reflecting on the tagged intentions in the Imagine Home showroom,  the Diamonds of Design Party was already revving up down the hall.

If you think Southern hospitality is all about boring white-gloved gentility, think again… This (and its summer counterpart, the White Party) is a hands-down rager!   Lined with 7 exquisite vignettes styled by accomplished female designers, the party space was packed to the rafters with industry friends. (To be clear:  There are only two kinds of people at the Atlanta market–the friends you know and the friends you haven’t yet met! :))

The Diamonds of Design Vignette Gallery will continue to be on display until June 2017 in Building 1, Floor 14, space 14-D-9, with additional vignettes in the lobbies of Buildings 1 and 2.  Go see them at your earliest opportunity!!

STEVEN DOES DALLAS
