Presidential Style: Redecorating the White House
Before Architectural Digest ran the very beautiful Michael Smith-decorated White House story, Steelyard ran its own White House design feature. Hailed as the centerpiece of our patriotically-themed Fall FOCUS Magazine, we asked 7 interior designers on to take on the task of redecorating 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
The monumental dwelling, comprehensively documented on WhiteHouseMuseum.org, serving leaders of our country since 1800, presented an amazing design opportunity and the editorial team hoped that designers would find the premise an imaginary honor.
Nearly every designer we asked said "Yes!" Juggling real work stress with their new high-stakes imaginary client (and a very demanding editor), they each presented thoughtful redesigns, sourcing furnishings from Steelyard and beyond. Most everyone reported that going into Steelyard was actually fun (music to our ears!) and it was a thrill for us to see their projects.
Gary Inman revealed that doing the White House was on his bucket list and relished the idea of creating a sanctuary for the most stressed person on the planet.
Steve McKenzie, who was balancing two show house installations, disclosed that he always wanted to design presidential china and that this was sort of close.
Joy Moyler did a 24-hr turnaround before she boarded a jet for Europe to meet with a client.
Eric Haydel tackled the dining room while setting up a showroom at the Boston Design Center.
Ashlina Kaposta, aka The Decorista, was battling the flu yet came up with a sultry space.
Nar Bustamante and his team supplied detailed cabinet drawings for the kitchen renovation.
And Steelyard's own Steven Avitable had a glorious time spicing up the Red Room.
Below are screen shots of each space. When you go to the actual magazine, you'll be able to take it all in with greater detail. And you'll also notice that every product links back to a Steelyard spec page or to a product's web page. Now, please enjoy these amazing rooms........
